Retired Honolulu Fire Fighter I Elmer Kapuaala

The late FF Kapuaala passed away on July 2, 2022. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on April 16, 1962, and served 12 years 10 months. His last assignment was with the Fireboat. Service was held at the Elks Lodge 616 on Kalakaua Avenue. Scattering of ashes followed.


Retired ARFF Assistant Chief Nathan S.K. Young

Nathan Sung Kyung Young, 87, of Kane’ohe, Hawaii passed away on August 19, 2022. He was born in Waialua, Hawaii on February 6, 1935, and graduated from Roosevelt High School class of 1953.  He retired in 1996 after 22 years as an Assistant Chief for the State of Hawaii Fire Department at Honolulu International Airport. He is survived by, son, Tony; daughter, Yvette; step sons, Harvey and William (Japen); granddaughter, Krislin (Herb); 14 additional grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by, wife, Geri; and son Danny; mother Rachel; father, Anthony; sister, Wilma. He was laid to rest at Hawaiian Memorial Park at 1 pm.

He was a good chief, had plenty heart for the firefighters and was well loved and respected by all.  He had plenty respect for HFFA and the union. When he retired, I remember he took a job at the cart barn at Pearl Country Club and would see him there with other retirees. You will be greatly missed, my friend!!   ~ Bobby Lee

Retired Honolulu Fire Fighter III Melvin Hoomanawanui

The late FF Hoomanawanui passed away on September 29, 2020. He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on October 16, 1964, and served 30 years 2 months. His last assignment was with Snorkel 9, 2nd Platoon. Service was held at Mililani Memorial Park-Downtown Chapel in Honolulu.


RETIRED FIRE CAPTAIN WALLACE AUKAI

The late retired Captain Aukai passed away on April 18, 2022.  He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on April 1, 1969, and served 25 years 3 months.  His last assignment was with Engine 17/3rd Platoon. Service held May 31, 2022 at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park-Lower Chapel located at 47-200 Kahekili Highway.


RETIRED FIRE CAPTAIN JAMES CARAVALHO

The late Honolulu Captain Caravalho passed away on August 19, 2021.  He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on July 1, 1964, and served 30 years.  His last assignment was with Engine 20/3rd Platoon. Service held June 3, 2022, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church located at 1525 Waimano Home Road.  He is inurned at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, which is located at 2177 Puowaina Drive.


RETIRED BATTALION CHIEF DOUGLAS CLARK

The late Chief Clark passed away on February 21, 2022.  He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department on December 16, 1965, and served 29 years.  His last assignment was with Battalion 3/2nd Platoon. A private service was held.


RETIRED BATTALION CHIEF HOWARD LAU

The late retired Battalion Chief Howard Lau passed away on March 10, 2022.  He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on November 16, 1959, and served 28 years 4 months.  His last assignment was with the Fire Communication Center. Service was held May 14, 2022, at the Hawaiian Memorial Park Chapel located at 45-425 Kamehameha Highway.


RETIRED FIRE CAPTAIN LUKE SAKANASHI

The late retired Captain Sakanashi passed away on April 1, 2022.  He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) on March 23, 1987, and served 25 years.  His last assignment was with Ladder 30/1st Platoon. Service held at Hawaiian Memorial Park Chapel located at 45-425 Kamehameha Highway.


RETIRED FF3 Reimers Robert Makaila

The late Retired FF Makaila passed away on February 10, 2022.  He was appointed to the Honolulu Fire Department on August 1, 1971, and served 27 years 5 months.  His last assignment was with the Fire Prevention Bureau (FPB). He was laid to rest at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.

RETIRED FAO RONALD K. KEALOHA SR.

The late FAO Ronald Kealoha Sr. passed away on March 26, 2022. He retired from the Kauai Fire Department on 12/26/1994 as an FAO
